In this niche, I found a channel that started only 2 months ago and is already achieving more than 4.7M+ views per month. Besides, they are using a very interesting pattern which triggers a very big audience. During my analysis, I noticed that this audience really engages with the episodes. Most of the comments under the videos are focused on the topics themselves, which is a great sign. When you see that happening, you know you’ve created a good video.

Starting with the original clip for a second

Looking at this niche and our audience, it’s a smart move to show the original clip at the start, even if it’s just for a second. It grabs the viewer’s attention by giving them a quick look at the original episodes. Great start!

00:05

Nice video editing

I like the effects they use in the editing. They make the video fun to watch, and effects like these are a perfect fit for this audience. If you have a video editor who can edit this way, that would definitely be a plus.

00:29

Make it personal

'I was too young to care about the controversy when it erupted back in 2005, but when I finally watched the episode, a couple of years later, I felt very guilty when I laughed...'

One thing I really like about this video is how the voice-over makes it feel very personal. You can approach your script in two ways: the more generic 'Wikipedia style,' or the personal approach they use here. Personally, I'm not a fan of obviously AI-generated, Wikipedia-like scripts where it's clear a bot wrote it. Don’t get me wrong, in some niches that’s perfectly fine, but if you take this personal approach, you can really build your brand. By creating more personalized scripts like this competition channel does, you can really build your own fan base. Besides, it's more enjoyable to watch because viewers feel like a real person is behind the screen, which can encourage them to also continue watching.

00:39

Giving the viewer what they want to see

The fact that he speaks about this part for a longer time now and how he laughed really bad at is made me as a viewer very curious, and that's a very smart trick. Because, what he's actually doing here is making sure that the viewer continues watching the video. You could drag this part out a bit more if you want, but don’t go too far or viewers might get annoyed. It’s important that when you do this, you eventually give them what they’re waiting for. Something they do very well here.

1:18

Great hook

So what on Earth did Matt and Trey do, to piss off so many Catholics and alcoholics at the same time?! Let's go ahead and dive right into it...

Great hook! Definitely one I could use for my own videos. It keeps viewers to continue watching because they’ll want to know the answer. Using hooks like this is a must because without them, your video will not be triggering to watch. So this is definitely something to take notes on.

1:24

Humor

What’s better than using humor in a hook? It’s a great combo because first they hook the viewer, then they mix in some humor. It’s very important to speak the same language as your audience, and this is a perfect example of that.

2:54

Creative way of adding a hook in your script

What I noticed during my analysis is that a lot of alcoholics clicked on this video, which I totally get because of the title and thumbnail. This is a creative way to add another hook to your video and encourage your audience to keep watching to find out the answer. Just showing them this will definitely spark their curiosity, just like it did for me as a viewer.

3:25

Adding memes

I can understand why this will work for this audience. Given the pace and the effects used, it’s clear that the target audience is young, and the comments show they really enjoy humor. So, using this type of meme fits perfectly. It’s definitely something to keep in mind if you want to get into this niche. Make it fun and funny to watch, because that’s exactly what this audience loves.

4:00

Another great hook

'And it's going to get much worse, trust me...'

Hooks like this will definitely trigger your audience to keep watching. Also the words 'trust me' let people come across very convincing and work well with the personal script. So this way you really give people a reason not to stop watching. I'll give you a few more hooks you can use as well:

  • You won't believe what happens next...
  • But what came after changed everything...
  • And that was just the beginning...
  • Little did we know, the worst was yet to come...
  • But then, something even more terrifying/crazy happened...
  • If only I had known what was about to unfold...
  • And that's when the real nightmare began...
  • 12:59

    Sharing 'real' personal stories

As I mentioned before, I love how the voice-over makes this video feel so personal. At the start of this video, he shares more of his opinions, but by the end, he’s telling personal stories about what he’s been through. Whether it's real or not doesn’t matter because it feels real to the viewer, and that’s what counts. I believe that this is also one of the reasons why the comments section is full of people sharing their own stories about their alcoholism and opening up. That’s how you build a real connection with your audience. Keep it real, keep it personal to really build your brand, and see what will happen with the views. Great script!

    Don'ts

    00:02

    Wrong background music

I get the style they’re going for in this video, but I feel like the background music doesn’t match at all with what the voice-over is saying. In the first few sentences, they’re talking about something serious, like a banned episode, so it feels like a missed opportunity not to add more tension in the intro. It's not about the script, but the sound effects/background music that just doesn't fit.

    TITLE RATING

    Title analysis

    Ceric Artman

    Used title 1

    The <span class="text-color-yellw">South Park</span> Episode About <span class="text-color-yellow">Alcoholism</span>

This competition channel uses a certain title strategy for every video they post, and as we can see it's working very well. Besides that, this title structure gives us the confirmation that you don't need to use the most detailed titles to create a good title structure because as you can see this is a very easy one. So you can just keep it simple, short and clear just like our competition does. But, I think we can make it a little bit more triggering if we add some triggerwords to it. As example:

    • The [TRIGGERWORD] South Park Episode about [TOPIC]

    Other example:

The SHOCKING South Park Episode About Gambling Addiction

    Ceric Artman

    Used title 2

    The <span class="text-color-yellow">South Park</span> Episode About <span class="text-color-yellow">Game Addiction</span>

Same title structure, so I can't say anything else that I already mentioned at Title 1, but I do notice another pattern that seems to work well with the titles. If you take a look at the topics they go for then we can also see a certain pattern: (Mental Health): Addictions, Anxiety, Loneliness, Toxic Relationships, Social media etc. I'll go intro more details about his at the 'Let's create your video section' because this is more about choosing the right topics, but I want to show you that it all starts with choosing the right topic because then your title will also automatically be much more triggering for your audience.

    Ceric Artman

    Used title 3

    The <span class="text-color-yellow">South Park</span> Episode About <span class="text-color-yellow">Attractiveness</span>

This is a perfect example of what I talked about in Title 2. The topic they're talking about is attractiveness, which fits right into the same category as what I mentioned earlier. I can't say much about the title itself because they keep using the same pattern. However, this shows us that their strategy works well, and if something works, you don't necessarily need to change it.

    Ceric Artman

    Used thumbnail 1

    ✅ Easy to read

This thumbnail is fine, it's easy to read and they use a maximum of 3 focus points. However, I think it can be more triggering but because we deal with a audience that's probably a big fan of Sout Park, you can't clickbait too much because they probably know a lot of episodes. So if you want to trigger your audience even more, it's better to add this in you titles. Besides that, this thumbnail is fine.

    Ceric Artman

    Used thumbnail 2

    ✅ Grey background

Something I noticed during my analysis is that they use a specific strategy for their thumbnails. By making the background black and white, anything with color stands out even more. Especially in the South Park niche, where the episodes use a lot of bright colors. You don't want your thumbnail to become too chaotic, so I really like how they direct your focus to a specific point in the thumbnail. This makes the thumbnail much clearer and easier to understand.

    Important

The challenge, in this niche, is finding a scriptwriter who has affinity with South Park. They don’t need to know every detail, but they should enjoy watching the episodes to build some knowledge. This makes it easier to create a personal opinion about the episodes, which is key to success in this niche, as we've seen from the competition.

    How to find topics?

To find topics in this niche, it's important to search for the episodes of South Park. You (or your scriptwriter/ChatGPT) need to know which episodes there are, so that you can make a video about that specific episode. However, you can also first check the patterns from our competition channels to see which topics perform best and try to search for related topics and then check if South Park has an episode about that certain topic you have in mind. But, because I want to make it as easy as possible for you, I already noticed some very interesting patterns that our competition channels uses. When you take a look at this channel, Ceric Artman then you'll notice a lot of topics that are going well about South Park Vs Mental Health. For example:

    The South Park Episode About:

    • Dr*g Addiction
    • S*x Addiction
    • Game Addiction
    • Attractiveness
    • Alcoholism
    • Loneliness
    • Bullying
    • Anxiety
    • Toxic Relationships
    • Obesity
    • Break-Ups
    • Social Media
    • Insecurity

Do you see the pattern I'm talking about? These topics all has to do something with 'South Park Vs Mental Health.' And if you ask me, it's not just luck that this channel achieves more than 4.4M+ per month. To create a successful channel, it all starts by choosing the right topic because if your audience is not interested in the topic, they will never click on your video. So because this competition channel focuses on these specific topics to remain within their niche, it keeps viewers engaged.

And don't get me wrong, because I don't want to say that this will be the only way to achieve success within this niche, because there are also channels that doing different topics that are doing well. But, I think it's important that when you notice a certain format that works well, you need to know why it's working so well and to me, this pattern we see here is definitely one of the reasons why.

What you can also do, is take a different approach to the topics your competition uses. For example, if they created a topic about mental disorders, you could narrow it down to something more specific, like ADHD. And then offcourse add your own story, facts, and memes to your video. What I’m saying is, it’s perfectly fine to get inspiration from our competition, as long as you don’t copy it directly.

YouTube: On YouTube, you can find plenty of topic inspiration. It’s also a smart idea to check out their community page, since they often ask their audience what they like and want to see.

Google: I found a website on Google where you can watch all the South Park episodes (check the first link). You can also use Google to search for episodes that were banned or generated a lot of discussions.

    https://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes

    https://www.southparkuncensored.com/

    https://screenrant.com/south-park-banned-censored-episodes-controversies-explained/

ChatGPT: You can ask Chat a lot of questions about South Park episodes, which can be really helpful if you want an overview of the episodes and aren’t sure what each one is about. Once you figure out how to use Chat, I definitely recommend giving it a try. But as I mentioned earlier, having a scriptwriter with an affinity for South Park is the best for in this niche. The prompt I used here for Chat goes as follows: I want you to become a real expert on South Park from now on. What I would like to know is which episodes relate to mental health. This can include anything like anxiety, depression, loneliness, etc. Please mention the season and episode number, so I know which episodes to watch.

  • "It Hits the Fan" (Season 5, Episode 1)
This episode deals with the impact of explicit language on society and touches on themes of societal anxiety and censorship.
  • "You're Getting Old" (Season 15, Episode 7)
Stan's struggles with depression and the feeling of growing old lead to significant changes in his personality, reflecting on the challenges of aging and mental health.
  • "Tweek x Craig" (Season 19, Episode 6)
This episode explores anxiety and relationship dynamics through the lens of Tweek and Craig's relationship, highlighting the pressures faced by young individuals.
  • "A Scause for Applause" (Season 16, Episode 13)
This episode critiques the concept of "causes" and societal expectations, touching on themes of anxiety about social justice and activism.
  • "The Pandemic Special" (Season 24, Episode 1)
The characters face mental health challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing issues like anxiety, depression, and isolation.
  • "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut" (Season 2, Episode 3)
While humorous, the episode touches on themes of neglect and emotional issues, with Cartman dealing with feelings of abandonment and self-worth.
  • Topic:

To come up with my own topic in this niche, I started by watching the competition's channels closely. I knew I wanted to create a topic focused on mental health, because we've seen that topics like these are working well. As I scrolled through their content, I noticed several topics about addiction, specifically drugs, sex, and gaming addiction. So I asked ChatGPT for other examples of addiction, and one that stood out was gambling. This idea seemed really interesting to me, especially because our audience is mostly made up of young American males. I think gambling addiction could be a topic that can really trigger them because gaming, drugs and s*x also worked well. My next step was to find out if South Park had ever done an episode on gambling addiction, and here’s what Chat came up with:

Yes, South Park does tackle gambling addiction in one of its episodes. Here's the relevant episode:

    "Red Man's Greed"

    • Season: 7
    • Episode: 7
    • Synopsis:
This episode deals with the town of South Park being taken over by a Native American tribe that runs a casino. The episode explores themes of gambling addiction, especially as Randy Marsh and other South Park residents get hooked on gambling at the casino. It shows how addiction can affect people’s decisions and lead to destructive behavior.

This episode highlights how gambling addiction can spiral out of control, leading to problems for individuals and the entire community.

The SHOCKING Episode Of South Park About Gambling

I choose to go for this title because I think we can trigger our audience much better with adding a triggerword to it. So now, we have a combination of something we've noticed that works and added something to it to make it more triggering. And the great thing is, you can apply this to every other title. The title structure goes as follows:

    • The [TRIGGERWORD] + Episode of South Park About [TOPIC]

    • The HIDDEN Episode of South Park About Politics

    • The CRAZIEST Episode of South Park About Dr*gs

But if you want to try a different strategy to see how it works, I would suggest trying something like this:

•The Episode of South Park [TOPIC]

    • The Episode of South Park That SHOCKED Everyone!

    • The Episode of South Park That SHOCKED The World!

    • The Episode Of South Park That GOT BANNED!

    How to create your thumbnail?

First, I took a screenshot of the episode. I wanted a clear picture with the right facial expressions and it had to be immediately obvious that they were gambling in a casino.

    Photoshop

To create better contrast, I made the background black and white. I also made the hat a brighter red so it matches better with the text color I’ll add later. Then, I added a shadow on top to create a gradient, which will help the text stand out even more.

In the end, I chose the text "I JUST LOST 26K" so the audience will quickly understand that this is about gambling. This also helps create recognition. If you followed all the steps, something like this could be your end result:
