Start with real footage
Starting your video with real footage ensures that the viewer immediately gets a certain value that they have clicked for. Those viewers who click on this video will most likely be real fans, and if you show them real footage right away, you increase the chances that they will continue watching.

Using Caitlin Clark's voice to tell the story
What I like to see here is that footage is shown while Caitlin is telling her story. People click on this video because they are triggered by the title, so I think it's a smart move to use her voice as much as possible in your video because that's exactly what viewers want to see.
3:43
Using clips that trigger your audience
'Like first of all, black people can't be racist.'
The comments under this video are full of this because it really triggers the audience. What they’ve done well here is tap into the audience’s emotions. I sometimes find the video a bit confusing because the voice-over doesn’t always introduce or comment on the clips, which can make it seem chaotic. But this style also helps the video go viral. The constant flow of real footage and triggering statements keeps the viewers engaged, which is a smart strategy and a big reason why this video is so successful.
Don'ts
00:13
No background music
I don't want to say this video is bad just because it doesn't have background music, but I think adding some music when the voice-over starts could really enhance the feeling for the viewer.
00:58 and 1:16
Small editing mistakes
I know these are minor details, but it is something that occurs more often in the video. Because so many real clips were added, you can hear that sometimes the voice-over does not complete the sentence. And don't get me wrong because this won't be a reason that makes people click away, but it can become a minor irritation if it happens more often in the video.
6:14
Not enough triggering hooks
By now, we're at 6+ minutes into this video and I haven't seen real triggering hooks come by. However, the use of real footage somewhat makes up for this, so I don’t want to say that it's bad because of that, but I think it could be even better if some more triggering hooks were added. As an example, on this timestamp. The topic goes over in split seconds to Shaquille, and a sentence could have easily fit in between as an example:
- But that wasn't all, because... *continuous topic*
- But if you thought that was it, you're wrong because... *continuous topic*
- But no one expected what [NAME] said about Clark's... *continuous topic*

Triggering thumbnail, but...
I can well understand why the target audience clicks on it (mainly because of the text). However, I do find that if you look at the facial expression in combo with the message they want to convey on the thumbnail, it is not quite right. The text indicates 'SHAME ON YOU.??' but I see two smiling people on the thumbnail which makes it a little confusing.

A clear message
This is a good example of wanting to convey a clear message with the thumbnail. If you look at thumbnail 1 and compare it to thumbnail 2, I think this thumbnail is much clearer to read. The facial expression of the woman who is angry is right in combination with the text, and the contract in the middle will definitely trigger with this target audience as well. But again, there are quite a few focal points in here. So I don't want to say that this style doesn't work, but I always try to use a maximum of 3 focus points, so people can see what the thumbnail is about in split seconds.

Could be better
I understand that the picture in the middle can add some value on the thumbnail, but I would leave it out here. As I've stated before, I personally wouldn't use more than 3 focal points on a thumbnail so quick, and if you do want to make an exception for that, then it should really add value. Looking at this thumbnail, the picture in the middle doesn't add that much value if you ask me. She is smiling, and nothing shocking is happening, so again they use the wrong facial expressions in combination with the message they want to convey. What I would do in this case is make sure that if you put a picture in the middle, that it is also so triggering and shocking that people click because of that. For example, that they are both in a fight or something shocking.

How to find topics?
It's very important to pay close attention to the latest news surrounding the WNBA, because this niche is news-based. This audience enjoys being informed mostly about Caitlin Clark, because if you take a look at our competition channel, then you'll notice that almost every video is about her. Besides that, If we look at the most popular videos of the competition channel, you can also see quite clearly that the titles indicate that X JUST HAPPENED. So this means that you can trigger your audience a lot if you present the news as if something shocking has just happened. This will create FOMO, which then results in a click.
Besides, you can see that when someone else says something about Caitlin, it also gets a lot of attention from the audience. So, focus on topics related to Caitlin Clark, especially when something shocking has happened or when someone, like a coach or the well-known Stephen Curry, has said something about her.
I’ve also noticed that gender and race play a significant role in topics about Caitlin Clark. In this video, there is a lot of discussion about Black women versus a White woman achieving success in the WNBA and how people react to that. Considering the comments went wild over the statement 'Black people can't be racist,' it’s clear that this is a very sensitive topic for this audience. So this is definitely something I would also focus on within this niche.
YouTube: On YouTube, you can get a lot of inspiration and see at the competition which videos hit well and which don't.

Google: Through Google News, you can also find many articles that have been posted recently. I searched for WNBA Caitlin Clark and a lot of articles came up. That way, you can be one of the first with a new topic, or turn news into news.
Topic:
Since I have seen during my analyses that videos going about Caitlin Clark are catching on well, I have chosen her as the topic. When I went a little further in my research, I saw that videos where Caitlin Clark is in conflict with another player also caught on very well. As an example, this one with over 1M+ within 1 month: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiXpkDbBwHE
So for that reason, I would definetly continue to focus on these types of topics because we see that this is catching on well. This gave me a lot of inspiration and I started searching on Google for 'Caitlin Clark Fight' and then came across the article I linked below:

How to create your thumbnail?
I searched via Google for a photo where it looks like something is happening (at least being in the action) and came across this photo:
Camera Raw Filter
Then I mirrored the photo so it looks like it was taken from a different angle. Then I cropped the women into a new layer and with the camera raw filter added the following: Exposure, Whiten, Texture, Sharpen so they stand out more.
Add elements
To make it look like something shocking is going on there, I have chosen to point a red arrow around the arm/hand so that it will raise questions like: what's happening there?
Eventually I chose to add this text, “SHE CHEATED HERE” to create some FOMO and because this fits well with the title. So if you followed all the steps, your thumbnail will look something like this:
