Why this

The great thing about this niche is that you can cover news-related topics while also making evergreen content. Giving them what they clicked for, but...
I think it’s good that they go straight to the point and immediately mention that they will be talking about the executions. If you start the video like this, it would be fine, but I think it could be even more triggering. What I would do here is create an intro like this: start with [mention a heavy topic] (show flashes of footage related to it), then quickly cut to [show another intense topic] to give them a preview of the most shocking cases right at the beginning. This will definetly spark their curiosity about what exactly happened and I think this way you can trigger the viewer even more.

Real footage
Using real footage is a must in this niche. Even if the quality is lower because it’s an older case, it doesn’t matter. What’s important is that people see these videos are real. The more real footage you can find, the better.

This voice-over is fine
Even though this is an AI voice-over, it’s a good fit for this niche with the right tone. I would definitely recommend opting for a male American voice-over with a bit of a crime-like feel, and they’ve done that well here.

Adding subtitles to finals words
By adding subtitles at important moments in your video like this, you create an extra focus point for the viewer and make it feel more real. So I’d definitely recommend adding subtitles, especially for a prisoner’s last words because it not only enhances the impact but also breaks up the video in a good way.
Don'ts

Bad transition
If you use transitions like this in your video, you're not giving the viewer a reason to keep watching. As I've mentioned in other niches, it's important to trigger the viewer when transitioning to a new topic, so your AVD stays high and people don’t want to click away. You can do this by using hooks. The more you apply this in your video, the better the viewer will stay engaged and want to watch the entire video. Below, I’ll give you a few examples you can use for this niche:

This thumbnail got almost 1M+ clicks in 2 weeks...
So first off, I want to say that if you choose to go for a thumbnail like this, that’s totally fine. However, I do think there are several things you can improve. Let’s start with the text: it’s unnecessary to include it on the thumbnail, since it’s already in the title. Why use the same phrase twice when you have two opportunities to grab attention? Plus, the text is quite long, so I’d recommend removing it for now. Next, we see four major focus points, which I would reduce to three to make the thumbnail look cleaner. The different background colors behind the prisoners also create an extra distraction. It would be better to keep the backgrounds all white or using a consistent mugshot style. As for the word "DEAD" appearing four times, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It is definitely triggering, but I think you could make it even more triggering by adding details about what these prisoners did. So overall, this thumbnail isn’t bad, but by adding these changes, you could make it even more engaging and increase the chances of clicks.

How to find topics?
To find topics in this niche, you first need to look at the competition to see which topics catch on the most. If we take a look at the competition channel, we can see a clear pattern where they talk about the executions of all prisoners, the youngest, the oldest, and women. What this audience also likes to see are the last meals and their final words. So let’s take a look at their three most popular videos from our competition because it’s important to build on something that already works.
- All PRISONERS EXECUTED in February 2025 (US): Last Meals & Final Words
- Youngest People Sentenced to Death Row in the U.S. : Executions, Final Words & Last Meals
- All PRISONERS EXECUTED in 2024: Last Words & Final Meals on Death Row
What’s interesting is that every video includes "last meals" and "final words," and I’ve seen a lot of comments about that. So, I would definitely keep mentioning this in your video because it’s simply something this audience loves to know. Additionally, in the three most popular videos, the title "All Prisoners" appears twice. That’s definitely something to continue using. Here, they don’t differentiate between men, women, young, or old. This also presents a great opportunity to showcase diversity in the thumbnail to make it even more shocking: for example, featuring a 16-year-old, a woman, and a 70-year-old grandpa.

Topic:
By going with "ALL Prisoners Executed in [MONTH]...", you’re sticking to a format that already works well in the niche. The way it's framed makes it feel like recent news, which definetly can boost clicks. Especially last meals and final words. That’s why it’s key to include those elements, since they trigger curiosity and discussion in the comments. Plus, it’s a topic you can bring back every month, making it a reliable content strategy that keeps people coming back.

How to create your thumbnail?
First, I went to Google to find 3 pictures of prisoners of death row. I simply search on Wikipedia through the list and found these 3 pictures.

Add backgrounds
To add more life to the thumbnail, I’ve used a red background to give it a crime-like vibe. I then searched for a mugshot image on Google so that it immediately becomes clear, in just a split second, that the video is about prisoners.
%20copy.jpg)
Photoshop
To make it stand out even more, I decided to add three black bars over their faces. I also adjusted the whiten, texture, and sharpness to make the faces stand out more clearly.

Eventually, I added the text in red and white to create contrast in the thumbnail. So if you followed all the steps, your thumbnail will look like this:
IMPORTANT: Don't use this thumbnail for your own channel; this is just an example because the information about the prisoners' actions is not 100% correct. I’ve put this up just as an example.

AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience like?
Last meals and final words of prisoners on death row
Although they don’t like the fact that prisoners even get to choose one, the comments are filled with last meals and final words. This is something that really triggers them because it’s something they find fascinating to watch, which is why I marked this comment as ‘liked.’ This topic is incredibly important within this niche, so I would highly recommend including the last words and last meals of these death row prisoners.
AUDIENCE ANALYSIS
What does the audience not like?
Paying taxes for these criminals
There are many people in the comments who have an issue with the death row system. They love to share their opinion, expressing their frustration about their tax money being spent on criminals who spend years waiting for their execution.
