niche?

In this niche I've found a channel that uses a unique structure in which I have not been able to find any other channel so far that does the same thing. Besides that, they achieve a lot of views per video even though they don't post much. Because the competition is low, and they use a certain strategy that works, the changes of success within this niche are really high. So if you're a fan of Golf, then this niche might be the one for you.

Good start

'Okay, let's talk about the tragedy of an extremely gifted young lady, who was exploited at every opportunity by people who should have known better...'

This is a very good start of the video because as a viewer, you click on the title 'How Michelle Wie's Golf Career Got RUINED By Doing This...'. Now if you look at the first sentence of the script, you can see that the script is therefore perfectly in line with the title of this video and that is a very important part. Give people what they're clicking for, because that's the only way you make sure they stay, and increase your AVD.

1:10

Nice video editing

I like this video editing because it uses good effects and sound effects. However, I want to mention that these details won't ensure a 'good' video. The most important thing is that the story is well told through the script and a voice-over. Your video can be edited in high quality, but if the story isn't conveyed well, viewers will still lose interest. So, having an editor who can produce high-quality edits is great, but remember that it's not the most important aspect.

3:34

Great hook!

'But if you thought that ended there, you're wrong...'

This is exactly the kind of hook I would use in my own script. It gives the viewer a reason to continue watching the video, and it makes the script become one story. However, this is the first hook that has triggered me after watching 3:34 minutes. So to trigger your audience even more, I would add more hooks like this at the beginning of your video because that's exactly the moment where most people usually click away. As I continue to watch the video, more and more great hooks appear. I'll list them below:

But her journey didn't stop there...

• And the fans loved her but that, took a downturn...

• Despite this setback, Michelle's Journey was far from over...

• She won several times as an amateur and broke many records, but she was still missing one thing...

• But after some incredible years, a Cinderella story turned into a nightmare...

6:51

Personal opinion

'How can an extremely talented golfer go from such a high to so low in just one year? For me, the answer is simple: poor coaching.'

As you can see, the narrator is asking a question and giving his personal opinion. This helps to make the viewer feel that the storyteller is a real person with their own perspective, and that will definitively add value to your video. It adds authenticity to the story, instead of telling a typical boring Wikipedia or bad AI script. By including these small details in your script, you ensure that you can engage with the viewer even more. Good script!

8:43

Draw the viewer into the story

A perfect example of how to really draw the viewer into the story is exactly what they do here. Just listen to the background music at this moment, they chose for some sad music to evoke emotion by the viewer. This, combined with a strong script with lines like this: "She was done..." adds detail and creates sympathy. All these elements work together to really draw the viewer in, and that's something they did very well here.

Don'ts

00:27

Don't make your intro too long

''But what happened to her when she grew older? Why could she never live up to the expectations? Was it the media that crowned her? The female Tiger Woods when she was so young? Or did her greedy parents destroy her promising career? When Fame and Fortune come too early, it often doesn't end well..'

It takes 50 seconds before the story actually begins. And don't get me wrong because this script is not bad, it's actually very good. There are a lot of good hooks in it, but it gets a little too drawn out here. The questions in the script are fine, but they could be easily reduced to one or two. I would stop the intro after this part and start the story directly. As an example:

What happened to her when she grew older? Why could she never live up to the expectations? To find out, we first have to go back to where it all started.

00:39

This is too much

It's good that they want to build tension through the background music, but this is too much if you ask me. It almost seems like you are watching a crime documentary. So I would recommend here to change this intense background music by for example as they have done in this video: What The Heck Happened To Brooke Henderson?

TITLE RATING

ESN Golf

Used title 1

How <span class="text-color-yellow">Michelle Wie's</span> <span class="text-color-orange">Golf</span> Career Got <span class="text-color-orange">RUINED</span> By Doing This...

Great title! It's made clear what it is about, without giving away too much information. And if you want to find out the answer, you have to click on the video. So this title will definitely raise questions for the viewer, and that is exactly what you want to create when thinking of a title. Very good title! The title structure they used goes as follows:

• How [NAME] + Golf Career + [TRIGGERWORD] + [TOPIC]

ESN Golf

Used title 2

How <span class="text-color-yellow">Natalie Gulbis'</span> <span class="text-color-orange">Golf</span> Career <span class="text-color-orange">TRAGICALLY</span> Died...

We see here the same title structure as title 1, and what I have noticed is that the videos containing this title structure all catch on well. Of course, this has to do with various factors as to why a video goes viral, but it is an obvious pattern that these titles work and for that reason I would also advise using the same title structure. Some other examples:

• How [NAME] Golf Career Got DESTROYED By This MISTAKE...

• How [NAME] Golf Career DRASTICALLY Ended By Doing This...

ESN Golf

Used title 3

Why <span class="text-color-yellow">Charlie Woods</span> Will <span class="text-color-orange">DOMINATE</span> The <span class="text-color-red">2024</span> <span class="text-color-orange">Golf</span> Season!

This title can work well, but as you can see, it is seasonal. So this can be both an advantage and a disadvantage because once the season has passed, your video will  stop getting views. So I don't want to say that this doesn't work, because this is the 2nd most popular video of this channel; but that has everything to do with the right timing of this video (posted before the season started). I will go into more detail about this at 'let's create your video'.

Looking at the title, I can totally understand why this target audience would click on this. A statement is made by the phrase "This is why...." and that can raise some questions. This is somewhere the same trick they use with titles 1 and 2: they give away some info in the title, but not too much. And if you want to know the answer, you have to click.

ESN Golf

Used thumbnail 1

Triggering text

When I saw this thumbnail, the text immediately caught my eye, and that's because of the text. The word abuse also stands out the most, and that's something they did well because the focus will go there. So I like this text, it raises some questions, but I do think that if you change the words 'MY CAREER' to 'ME' it could raise even more questions, because now they already give away that it is about her career, and I think it's actually good for your audience to speculate for themselves what this abuse might be about.

ESN Golf

Used thumbnail 2

Contrast, but...

If you compare this thumbnail to thumbnail 1, you'll notice they used more color, making it stand out even more. Besides that, they used the same structure: a person on the left and text on the right, with the trigger word in yellow. So, looking at the color combination of this thumbnail, I definitely like this because it makes it stands out more than thumbnail 1. However, when it comes to the text itself, it's not as triggering as the first thumbnail because the text on thumbnail 1 is written from a different perspective, as if the person in the thumbnail is speaking directly to the viewer, and that will definitively trigger your audience even more. So overall, the contrast and color combination they used is here good, but the text could be improved to be more engaging because this actually looks more like a text you would use for a title instead of a thumbnail.

ESN Golf

Used thumbnail 3

A clear pattern

Another obvious pattern that appears to work well that this competition channel uses, is to photoshop the woman's upper body. Just take a look at thumbnail 2, here you can also see a purple colored shirt where they put the focus on the woman's breasts. I have seen some comments about this as well. Some people find it disrespectful and notice that it's fake, while others indicate that they clicked on this video because they wanted to see the picture from the thumbnail in the video. So whether people like it or not, they do click on the video and so for that reason I would also recommend continuing to use this type of photos because we simply see that it works.

Who is our target audience?

American males between the age of 20 and 60 that are interested in videos between 10-20 minutes about female golfers

Topic example

How to find topics?

IMPORTANT: It is important to focus in this niche on female golfers because there's a clear pattern that those topics are catching on well. The news related topics about specific male golfers such as a Charlie Woods can certainly work, but I personally wouldn't focus on that because it's seasonal and those kinds of topics are also more saturated. I googled almost all the female names that were covered by our competition channel and found out that the topics they choose are mostly about English, American, Canadian professional female golfers. What they do next is create a triggering thumbnail where the woman's breasts become almost the main focus point, while the video itself is not about that at all.

Another thing you could try in this niche, is using topics about influencer golfers, like Grace Charis. https://www.instagram.com/itsgracecharis?igsh=MXRvNTlnYzN1bHN2Mw== We can clearly see that this audience clicks on thumbnails where a woman's breasts are the main focus. So, topics about influencer golfers could be something to try in this niche.

Google: What I have noticed is that almost every female golfer who has been covered by our competition channel plays for the LPGA Tour. On Google, I simply searched for female golfers and came up with this list. From here, you can search further again to see if there is interesting information to be found about a particular player: https://www.lpga.com/statistics/money/official-money

Youtube: On YouTube, you can get a lot of topic inspiration by googling the names the competition channel ESN Golf used. That way you can see if there are any recent articles to be found about these golfers which might be interesting for a new topic. You can also get a lot of inspiration from the comments of the target audience, as I show below. These people are the real fans and thus give away valuable information about which golfers they like to watch.

Topic:

I did a Google search about professional female golfers who are playing on the LPGA tour and came across the name Alison Lee. She is an American professional golfer and I could find many articles about her. I also saw an article about "Nasty dog bite slows down LPGA star Alison Lee, who has been the hottest player in golf"  and that indicates that Alison Lee thus carries a title that she is the 'hottest player' in Golf, and that is exactly the thing that triggers this audience: an attractive woman playing golf. Besides that, she's been out of the game for a while due to an injury to her hand, and that's exactly the thing we can respond to with the title and thumbnail.

How Alison Lee's Golf Career DRASTICALLY Changed Because Of This...

How to create your title?

I used the same title structure as our competition channel because we can see that it works and when something works we don't necessarily need to change it. The title structure I used goes like this:

• How [NAME] + Golf Career + [TRIGGERWORD] + [TOPIC]

YOUR VIDEO

Thumbnail example

How to create your thumbnail?

As we have seen on the competition channel, they use a clear strategy for their thumbnails. I'm going to use the same strategy as them because we can see that it works, but I'll make sure to make it in my own style so we don't completely copy the competition. So the first thing I did was searching for an image about Alison Lee. Since I wanted to create a thumbnail that provides a 'shocking' effect that could raise a lot of questions, it was a logical choice to choose an image where Alison didn't look very happy but rather a little worried. So I came up with this image:

Zoom, flip, and change the background

Because I wanted to bring out her facial expression well clearly in the thumbnail, I zoomed in well on her face and flipped the photo so that the picture was more accurate. Then I made the background blue in Photoshop so that the thumbnail stands out even more.

Photoshopping the upper body

First of all, I want to mention that I'm not entirely satisfied with the quality of the thumbnail and the way it was photoshopped, there were some issues with the thumbnail designer and a lot of time has gone into it. So I hope you can overlook this and still get a clear idea of what I mean by creating a thumbnail in this niche. As we know, this is a major focus point of the thumbnail, because almost all the female golfer on our competition channel are edited this way. And since we see that works, I wanted to do it this way as well.

Add text

Finally, I added the text and used the color red so that our thumbnail has a different kind of look than the competition. I chose this text because it looks like Alison Lee made this statement; it is from her perspective and as we have seen, a similar text has done very well with the competition. Besides that, l used the Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop - Exposure, Texture, Whiten, Sharpen to balance everything out.

Finally, if you followed all the steps, this will be about the final result.

This is one of the older niches from Faceless Niches. And because of that, we cannot guarantee that all of the data in this niche is still relevant today. You can see in the competition analyses when we updated this niche last.

Before diving into any niche on Faceless Niches, we always suggest doing your own research as well. But because this is an older niche, it is even more important to do that.
