Black Culture
Why this
niche?
There are 2 channels in this niche that started less than 6 months ago and both are already extremely successful. Both channels are easily achieving more than 1.5 million monthly views at the time of writing, and given that the channels have only started so recently, there is a huge chance that this number of views will only continue to rise. In this niche, it is easy to target an older audience through topic choice, which will benefit your RPM. Finally, this niche allows for a good combination of news content and evergreen content, allowing you to take advantage of the benefits of both forms of content creation.

Competition ANALYSIS
These channels are showing potential for this niche.
The competition channel Soulful Screen has found a good subniche in the celebrity niche. In this case, the content is specifically about black celebrities. It mainly focuses on artists and actors who are currently between 45-60 years old, which immediately gives you great influence over the age of your viewers. What stands out, however, is the sheer volume of comments on Soulful Screen's channel about misleading titles, clickbait and basically not providing value. To me, this means that if you create better, less clickbait titles, you can still attract viewers and as a result, they will be much more positive about your channel. You could experiment with posting daily to see if this can make you grow faster than the competition channels. As for titles and thumbnails, the viewer wants to get the idea that they are going to get new information by watching the video. The video quality is not incredibly high, so you can easily improvise on this. What does turn out to be very important is the accuracy of your information. So make sure your script writer does good research.

Confirm the video's relevance
The video starts with a clip that’s from a news broadcast. This emphasizes the relevance of the video. It is breaking news and therefore something you absolutely cannot miss as a viewer. It is not clear whether the breaking news banner and inset with 2 photos are also from the original news broadcast. This could also have been edited in by the creator.

Confirm your title
The title revolves around both Sylvester Stallone and Carl Weathers. This is where a clip begins where we first see Sylvester Stallone, so we also get immediate confirmation that Sylvester Stallone does indeed have something to do with this video. Also, this clip serves as a sort of reminder of who Carl Weathers was as an actor and where you might know him from. The clip is well chosen because here we see Sylvester Stallone sad after Carl Weathers' character is punched to death. Even though this is acted out, it fits the title perfectly.

Including actual clips from the main character
Since the video is about Sylvester Stallone who cannot hold back his tears because of the death of his friend, it is incredibly powerful that we see Sylvester Stallone speaking here. Who better to convey emotion on this subject than one of the main characters himself?

The video's audio is missing here.

Audio not in sync
Here Sylvester Stallone already begins speaking while we are clearly still watching a scene from the movie. This comes across as a bit messy and I don't think this was meant to be the case.

Maybe a different starting clip
Since the title begins with Sylvester Stallone, you might also consider taking this as the starting shot. Here Sylvester Stallone actually tells what is in the title as well and we immediately see his emotion regarding the subject.

Wrong chapters
These chapters indicated by the creator in the description don’t make a lot of sense to me. Chapters can certainly keep your viewers watching longer. After all, if a video does not interest them, or they only come for a specific part of your video, this way you make it easier for them to skip straight to that part instead of clicking away. In that case, however, the chapters must be set up correctly.

Footage that doesn't match the script
Here Sylvester Stallone talks about what Carl Weathers and he accomplished with Rocky. I would insert a shot or image of one of the highlights of the film here to reinforce this statement.
1:24
Do not repeat yourself
The AI VO begins by asking if you've heard the news yet that Carl Weathers has passed away. Of course, this is unnecessary to say anymore if your entire video up to this point revolved around announcing the death of Carl Weathers.

Vague and confusing
To be honest, I don't think this is a very good thumbnail. What will grab the viewer's attention is the size of Carl Weathers' face on the right and the way this photo is edited (clear and sharp). But the things that could be improved on this thumbnail are numerous. For starters, because few different colors are used in this thumbnail (actually only brown, black and white shades), the thumbnail is difficult to understand at a glance. On top of that, Carl Weathers' face is fairly large in the picture twice, even though they are pictures from two different stages of life, which could make you think they are two different people. The text R.I.P. actually disappears completely at the bottom left of the image and because it is not immediately clear that the men are carrying a coffin, you might even initially think that it concerns a team of security men. The face masks for their faces also do not contribute to the feeling you want to convey through the thumbnail. In this case, the title also does not match the thumbnail. Finally, the title 'Sylvester Stallone Can’t Hold Back TEARS About Carl Weathers Tragic Death!!' starts with Sylvester Stallone, but the man is nowhere to be seen in the thumbnail.

Easily viewable, but not matching the title
This thumbnail also does not match the title 'The Infamous Scene That Took Living Single Off Air!' at all. The video is about an infamous scene that would have caused this series to be taken off the air. I would think it would make more sense to show a sneak peak of this scene in the thumbnail. Or cast members with more emotion on their faces as if they were thinking or speaking about that infamous scene at that moment. Just like with the previous thumbnail, the creator has made sure that the person in the middle of the thumbnail stands out in terms of clarity and sharpness of the photo. I'm guessing the people in the picture frames around it are fellow cast members. Anyone who watched this series will make the link between the thumbnail and the fact that the video is about this series. Because it is a series that is no longer broadcast, you will most likely also trigger feelings of nostalgia or make people suddenly think of a series they loved at the time. This makes them curious and makes them read the title.

Good concept, but not matching the title
From this thumbnail I understand that this person was recently arrested and this is his mugshot. The sign is very small and I doubt viewers will read what it says, but if you enlarge the thumbnail you can read the name of this person 'Todd Anthony Bridges'. What I like about the title being '7 MINUTES AGO: Todd Bridges,Of Diff'rent Strokes REVEALS SOME OF HIS DARKEST SECRETS' is that it starts with ‘7 MINUTES AGO'. Combined with the thumbnail, this makes me think Todd Bridges' mugshot was taken 7 minutes ago. However, I find what follows next in the title very confusing and I don't quite understand what this has to do with the fact that Todd Bridges was allegedly arrested. What you could do for the thumbnail is to enhance the emotion on Todd Bridges' face. For example, you could make him look very sad, scared, angry, confused or disturbed. As a viewer, that makes me curious about what preceded the making of this mugshot. Here too, it is of course important that this is actually discussed in your video.

Start with an artist's hit song
Since your video is about an artist, it is very smart to start your video with a snippet from one of his hits, including the music video. This immediately gets the viewer in that nostalgic feeling, vibing to music they once loved.

Real voice over
I like the fact that this channel uses a real voice over. If you were to ask me, I would say it's a black woman's voice which of course fits the channel very well.

Confirm the script
Here the editor put in a clip from a music video by Jaheim that relates to what the voice over has just said.

Show the people you're talking about
Here the script mentions Usher and Charlie Wilson and we see a photo of both men pop up in screen. Although I would have chosen to have them both come into full view for a brief moment, it is good for retention to show what you are talking about.

Incorporate humor
Depending on your topic, it can work very well to incorporate jokes into your script that do relate to your script.

Use your audience's lingo
The voice over asks 'So, what's the 411?'. I had to look it up myself, but this means 'the relevant information or the truth'. More so, this is also a title from a Mary J. Blige album which resonates perfectly with your audience.

Start with an artist's hit song
This might sound contradictory because I also said it's a good thing to start your video this way but I want you to be aware of the risk at copyright claims from music publishers such as Sony. Especially music and movie publishers are very strict with these claims and this might lead to your video not being able to bring in revenue.

No background music
While I wouldn't start with background music here yet because there is another piece of music video right after this sentence, I noticed that this video does not include background music. If it were my video, I would add background music because it makes the video less boring to listen to.

Clear before and after
What this thumbnail does well is clearly sketch a before and after image. On the left, the celebrity can be seen when he was younger and most likely in his prime time. On the right the suggestion is made that that is how he looks now. The difference between these two pictures is mainly in the fact that the celebrity on the right looks many times older. It does not immediately look like he is doing worse or better now, which is frequently done in celebrity videos. However, I don't quite understand why the young version of the celebrity in the middle was added yet again, and I also don't quite understand why the text “save me” was added at the bottom of the screen. Possibly fans of this celebrity do get it and things have gone downhill for this star. In that case, you might in fact think that his younger self is making an appeal to save him.

Good thumbnail for the news format
This thumbnail very well suggests that breaking news has just come out. This is because it looks like we are watching a news anchor presenting an item about Faith Evans and Tupac. I did some brief research on this and here is the situation: Faith Evans was in a relationship with Biggie, Tupac's rival. Tupac apparently once asked Faith Evans to have sex with him. Knowing this and seeing a thumbnail showing Faith Evans and Tupac suggesting that Faith Evans has made a shocking revelation, of course you want to know what exactly this is about. What I dislike about this thumbnail is that there is actually too much happening. You have the news anchor (1), the photo of Faith Evans and Tupac (2), the text under that photo (3), the breaking news banner (4) and the text in the breaking news banner (5). I would see if I could simplify the thumbnail myself.

No clear relation with the title
What I miss in this thumbnail is the relationship to the title 'From En Vogue To Losing EVERYTHING! Dawn Robinson REVEALS WHY She’s HOMELESS'. It is not clear to me what the two men in the photo and the newspaper article she is holding have to do with her being homeless. At the same time, you could say that those two men seemingly have something to do with the claim that she is homeless, but if that is the intention, I don't think it is the strongest way to make that clear. Also, all the persons in the thumbnail look very happy, while apparently serious things are about to be exposed: namely, the reason why the celebrity at issue in this video lost everything and became homeless. I myself would like to create an image that clearly shows that the celebrity at hand is homeless. I am thinking of thumbnails like this.

How to find topics?
To find topics in this niche, you actually want to look for black celebrities who are somewhat less in the news today, but who were very big at the time. What is striking is that many of the stars about whom content is created were born between 1960 and 1970. So I also take this into account when picking my main character. You also want there to be either high-profile stories about the person or high-profile stories about the series in which this person starred.
Google: On Google you can find lots of articles about celebrities and politicians that you can use to your advantage. For that reason, I started searching on Google for the following: 'black actors series who lost it all'.
Topic:
When searching on Google, I came across this article and this YouTube video. The article mentions Harold Perrineau and the video mentions several black actors. When I searched on Harold Perrineau, I did not immediately find very juicy stories that would do well on YouTube. So I focused on the individuals in the YouTube video. First, I searched on the names of those individuals to see when they were born. I also checked on the league channel to see if this channel has not already made a video about this. With the name Isaiah Washington, I got a hit. This is an actor born in 1963 and he starred in the very famous series Greys Anatomy. On top of that, search results show that he used drugs on set and expressed homophobia. This is perfect input for a YouTube video.

How to create your thumbnail?
For this video, I would choose to use a photo of Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy. Make sure you choose a photo that is well lit and preferably one with Isaiah Washington looking into the camera. The articles found show that Isaiah Washington got into a feud with Patrick Dempsey and that he insulted co-star T.R. Knight in that argument. I would include these people in the thumbnail, just as the competition channel has done with, for example, the video about Living Single or video about the forgotten child actors:
Possible photos to use of Isaiah Washington:
• Photo 1
• Photo 2
• Photo 3
Possible photos to use of Patrick Dempsey:
• Photo 1
• Photo 2
• Photo 3
Possible photos to use of T.R. Knight:
• Photo 1
• Photo 2
