Why this
niche?
A channel in this niche only uploaded 7 videos and it received 1.7M views on those 7 videos, which is insane. Besides that, it's a really safe niche with no copyright issues and the content is really evergreen so if a channel like this pops off, you can enjoy it for many years to come.

This raises questions, but...
It’s probably not how I’d start my own video, but I get why it works in this niche. It immediately sparks curiosity, which is exactly what you want. They keep it short, which is smart because if it drags on too long, it starts feeling like a sales pitch, and that’s something you really want to avoid. So yeah, this is definitely a solid way to grab the viewer’s attention, as long as you get straight to the point afterward.

Nice video editing, but don't let it scare you
The video editing is nice and it looks like they're using custom characters animations but it's not. They just have a few pictures of their characters and animate those with simple animations that many editors can do in any editing software. So please don't let it scare you that these videos are way to expensive to create because they are not. I will dive into more detail in the lets create your video section.

Using subtitles when no fitting footage is available.
When there’s no relevant footage available, subtitles help keep the viewer engaged and ensure they still receive the information. It's like a little pause that refreshes the flow, keeping things interesting and keeping the viewer engaged.

Nice voice-over
I like how this voiceover uses her tone and makes use of different voices. Since these are fictional books, a voice like this would be perfect for this type of niche. Looking at the books that are discussed, I understand why they chose a female voice. The best thing about this voice is that it feels like she’s recording it on the spot, rather than just reading a boring script. So make sure you find someone who knows how to make it personal, as if the voiceover is recording in an attic somewhere. That's exactly what you want.

Humor
What they do well here is occasionally using sarcastic humor. This creates a nice break in the video and allows you to make your audience laugh every now and then, because, based on the comments, they also find the summaries really funny and value that a lot. I’ve mentioned this above, but it shows that the story and your script are some of the most important things to make your video/channel go viral. The key in this niche is to tell your story in the most fun way possible, and that’s exactly what they do really well here.

Strong hook
‘Then at dinner Maddo our bloodthirsty Fay dad, drops abombshell…’
This is exactly the kind of hook I would also use in my own videos. When you listen to the video, it’s just one sentence they throw in there, but it gives the viewer a reason to keep watching. However, it took more than 5 minutes before I found the first ‘real strong hook,’ so I would advise incorporating this type of hook more often throughout your script.

Thumbnail is fine but..
For this niche, I think this thumbnail is fine. It has not to many focus points, I like that they used a background that looks the same as the book cover and the contrast is fine. But there's one thing that's missing and that is some triggering text because now this thumbnail doesn't trigger any emotion at all. So by adding some shocking labels above the characters like, narcist, hooker, slave or something like that, this thumbnail will be way more triggering by just adding that. I will show a example in the lets create your video section down below.

Important
It may look like they're using custom characters animations but it's not. They just created a few pictures of their characters and animate those with simple animations that many editors can do in any editing software. So please don't let it scare you that these videos are way to expensive to create because of animations because they're not. You can simply create a character by using ChatGPT, OpenArt or any other AI that can create pictures. I tested this out and I personally like OpenArt the most because they have a option to create a characters in their paid option ($15 per month).
How to find topics?
To find good topics in this niche, it's important to look closely at which books they cover because the book niche is very broad. The channel Pagely can actually be seen as a sub-niche since they focus on a specific type of book. The key is to stay within the same niche so that viewers are more likely to click on another video after watching one.
For example, let’s say you see a video about Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, a book about a girl named Mare who discovers that despite her Red blood and lower-class status, she possesses a superpower that is usually reserved for the Silver rulers. To protect themselves, the King and Queen decide to marry her off to their youngest son, Maven. Now, imagine that the next video on the channel is about a biography of Ronaldo. The chances of the same viewers clicking on it are very low.
That’s why it’s crucial to analyze what kind of books your competition is choosing and stick to that sub-niche. A great way to do this is by using ChatGPT. You can simply list the book titles that the competing channel has covered and ask what the common theme is between them. Based on that answer, you can then ask ChatGPT to suggest more books that fit within the same category. This will help you find new topics that are likely to attract the same audience. This is the ans
The audience seems to love YA fantasy, romantasy, dystopian fiction, and dark academia. Here are some book recommendations that would likely appeal to them:
YA Fantasy & Romantasy
- A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas
- Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas
- The Cruel Prince – Holly Black
- The Shadows Between Us – Tricia Levenseller
- An Ember in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir
- These Hollow Vows – Lexi Ryan
- Dance of Thieves – Mary E. Pearson
- Kingdom of the Wicked – Kerri Maniscalco
Dystopian Fiction
- The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins
- Divergent – Veronica Roth
- Legend – Marie Lu
- The Selection – Kiera Cass
- Shatter Me – Tahereh Mafi
- Delirium – Lauren Oliver
Comment section:
That aside, I’d definitely recommend checking the comments as well. This audience often engages so much with these types of videos that they enjoy suggesting topic ideas in the comments. It's also common that when books are finished, there are more parts, and you’ll find all that information in the comments.

YouTube: On YouTube, there are some channels focused on book summaries, but none that do it quite like our competitor channel, Pagely. An example of this is the channel below. What's interesting to see is that their most recent video chose the same topic (Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros | Animated Summary) and it immediately performed well. This is yet another confirmation that if you want to start in this niche, the chances of success are definitely there.

Topic:
I first explored ChatGPT’s suggested book list and came across Caraval by Stephanie Garber. To see if this topic had potential, I searched for it on YouTube and found a brand-new channel with only two videos. Interestingly, their first-ever video was about Caraval—and despite having zero subscribers, it still managed to get 9K views. For a new channel, that's a strong indicator that there's demand for this topic. This confirmed to me that Caraval is a great starting point, which is why I decided to go with it. I’ll link the video below.

How to create your thumbnail?
First, I searched up for the book cover because that's the most important thing off course.
.webp)
Adding background
Then I added a background that looks kind off the same as the book cover. I did that with AI in Phototshop and ask it to expand the book cover and this is the result.

Adding characters
Then I added the characters to the thumbnail. Depending on what characters you will you use for your video you can put them on your thumbnail.

Adding text
This is really important when you compare this thumbnail to the competitions thubmnail. They often don't use any text on their thumbnails and I think that's what missing on their thumbnails. So make sure you give the characters on your thumbnails some funny or shocking labels. So this will be the end result:
